365 Days of Reading Lite

This is Lauren's tumblr. I don't post too often, and when I do, it's usually poorly-taken photos from my Instagram. Cool.

We’re reading Chad Harbach’s THE ART OF FIELDING in my Contemporary Lit class. A girl who is in both that class and my Philosophy class whispered to me, “I was really surprised that I’m enjoying the book! I had no idea that I could actually like reading.”

*heart fills with hope*

Eep. Sorry, Tumblr. I keep neglecting you.
But I just finished reading a really good book, so I thought I’d tell you about it. Remember Anna Dressed in Blood? Its sequel is being published this August (pictured above), and my goodness it’s great. It’s more character-focused than Anna, which I liked because the characters are one of the best parts of these books. Because of this focus, Girl of Nightmares isn’t as gory or horror-filled as its predecessor. It still manages to pack a punch, though. There’s a scene towards the end in a forest that made it difficult for me to sleep last night.
My next read is The Treachery of Beautiful Things, which looks promising. I’ll let you know my thoughts—if I remember. You know how I am.

I’ve been neglecting you, Tumblr followers! Here are the last few books I read, and what I thought of them (briefly):

  • Unbreak My Heart by Melissa C. Walker: fun, hilarious, and sweet. I loved that the protagonist’s family was involved in the story. If you like adorable romance, you MUST buy this one in May.
  • Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo: fantasy done right. Great world building on this one. Really looking forward to the next installment.
  • For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund: a retelling of Persuasion that goes above and beyond the label of “retelling”. I was seriously wowed by this one. So much love.

All of these were 5-star reads for me. Hopefully my current read doesn’t break the good-book streak!

Hope that makes up for my negligence! I’ll try to do more book instagramming soon. ;)
