The main character is just wonderful—but not in the way you’re thinking. Dani is rude, occasionally mean, and she always speaks her mind. I like when an author isn’t afraid to write a protagonist who isn’t entirely lovable.</p> <p>I don’t mean for that to dissuade you from reading, because <em>All These Lives</em> is an excellent book. I mean to emphasize the fact that this story feels authentic, that the characters seem like more than characters.</p> <p>So please go read All These Liveswhen it comes out in June. Here are the last few books I read, and what I thought of them (briefly):</p> <ul><li><a href="http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13060734-unbreak-my-heart" target="_blank">Unbreak My Heart</a> by Melissa C. Walker: fun, hilarious, and sweet. I loved that the protagonist&#8217;s family was involved in the story. If you like adorable romance, you MUST buy this one in May.</li> <li><a href="http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10194157-shadow-and-bone" target="_blank">Shadow and Bone</a> by Leigh Bardugo: fantasy done right. Great world building on this one. Really looking forward to the next installment.</li> <li><a href="http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8306761-for-darkness-shows-the-stars" target="_blank">For Darkness Shows the Stars</a> by Diana Peterfreund: a retelling of Persuasion that goes above and beyond the label of &#8220;retelling&#8221;. I was seriously wowed by this one. So much love. </li> </ul><p>All of these were 5-star reads for me. Hopefully my current read doesn&#8217;t break the good-book streak! </p> <p>Hope that makes up for my negligence! People say this is too much like The Hunger Games, but I’d disagree. The overarching concept, MAYBE, but the story itself is completely different. I wouldn’t call The Selection a masterpiece, but it was a seriously fun book, and yeah, I’d recommend it.
